Word on the street is that the girlies are over summer — I’m hearing all the “ugh, I’m sick of summer clothes” and “can’t wait to wear real outfits and layers.” …classic August mood. Don’t fret — I’ve cooked up 5 fresh outfit recipes you can wear from now until the leaves start to turn.

Look #1: Capri-Sun

You’re either team capris all the way or you’re a total hater. No in-between. If you’re in the hater camp, hear me out. When capris started cropping up earlier this year (pun 100% intended), my immediate reaction was, “hard pass.” But after some time perusing capri outfits on the internet that are actually chic, I had a change of heart. If I can pull these off, so can you. Take a peek at how I styled them here and here.

Black and white is one of my go-to color combos and a no-fail trick to achieving instantly chic looks.

I layered a sheer shirt over a tank — a fresh way to add depth without bulk in warmer weather. Sheer tops are trending, but a linen or cotton poplin shirt works just as well if that’s more your style.

Now, let’s talk about my ‘wrong bag’ move. Instead of playing it safe with a leather tote, I threw in a curveball with a raffia bag. It’s like bringing a bit of beach to the city streets. The textured raffia adds a casual, summer-y vibe and plays off the edgy studded leather mules perfectly.

This outfit is all about mixing unexpected elements — capris, sheer layers, and contrasting accessories. It’s proof that neutral doesn't have to mean boring, and summer style can still have a touch of edge.

Outfit recipe recap:

  • Main ingredients:

    • A neutral light layer (sheer, linen or poplin shirt)

    • A neutral t-shirt or tank top that matches your layer (a slimmer cut works better for layering)

    • Capris (if you don’t have capris, try recreating this look with bermuda shorts, bike shorts or even leggings)

  • 2 non-apparel pieces that contrast each other: edgy shoes and summer-y bag (or vice versa)

  • Your signature touch — a dash of your personal style through a signature piece

    • Pro tip: I’m a big believer in finding that signature piece or styling trick that makes your outfits feel uniquely you. It’s like your style fingerprint — your secret sauce to transforming any look from just clothes to your personal style. Maybe it’s a vintage belt you always reach for, your favorite way to cuff jeans, that silk scarf you thrifted, or your go-to red lip. Whatever it is, it’s the difference between wearing an outfit and owning your look.

    • For my signature touch, I’ve been mixing it up with my jewelry game. My current play is mixing metals — gold, silver, colored gem stones — they’re all invited to the party. It’s my little rebellion against matchy-matchy rules, and it adds that perfect dash of ‘me’ to every outfit.
