I’m calling it — 2025 is the year of personality pieces. You know, those pieces that give an outfit that je nais se quois. Some call it the ‘sauce’, but I like to think of it as umami — that rich, savory flavor that deepens the overall taste of food. It’s what makes an outfit, a chef’s kiss.
I recently talked about my penchant for personality pieces over on
’s What’s In series (so honored!) Over the years, statement pieces have been a consistent element to my style. Why? Because they’re low lift, high impact.Sporting a fun accessory, an unexpected print or silhouette can take your outfits from bland to flavorful in a snap — it’s the easiest trick for elevating staples and expressing your style POV.
Personality pieces also make for an easy conversation starter. The proof is in the pudding: on our second date, my partner wore a shirt with a conversational print (a cool dancing skeleton at a luau lol) — it was totally the first thing I noticed and asked about! Perfect way to break the ice on date #2. He still owns the shirt to this day <3
Are you convinced yet? Next time you have something ‘unpredictable’ on your calendar (those first few dates, job interviews, networking, etcetera etcetera), let your personality pieces do the heavy lifting to get the convo going.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane shall we…
#Neverforget the OG capital S STATEMENT necklace, the J.Crew Bubble Necklace circa 2010. The chokehold (pun intended) this necklace had on millenials should be a case study. Today, you can buy this relic off of Ebay or Poshmark for $40 !!
Fast forward to 2025 — the statement necklace of the season from Juju Vera. It’s being refreshed in a tassel version, exclusive to Moda Operandi. Will the Juju pendant necklace become as ubiquitous as the OG J.Crew bubble? Only time will tell…
A few of my favorite personality pieces
Speaking of Juju, these earrings instantly became my new personality when I put them on for the first time. They definitely make a statement, but not in a ‘fancy’ way — they’re just plain fun! Imagine them with a white tee, jeans, flats, and a vintage leather jacket to go out to dinner. Vibes.
I couldn’t wait for my next beach getaway to wear this RENATA.Q seashell choker. It made my jeans and a shirt combo more interesting for a day trip to Sonoma. I like to say, ‘vacation pieces’ deserve some love on regular days too.
Yes, you can wear multiple personality pieces at once. Exhibit A: my Siedres skirt and vintage Jackie (via Vestiaire) played really well together. Mixing different textures and patterns can be tricky, but when done right, the payoff is pretty sweet. Choosing pieces in the same color family is key.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve probably seen my silver Agmes cuff around. It’s by far my most worn and complimented accessory of all time. She’s a forever piece for me.
I usually steer away from Zara, but last summer I couldn’t resist this embroidered fish clutch and Isabel Marant-esque sandals. Safe to say, I’ll keep rewearing these pieces for a longgg time.
I’ve lost count of how many DMs I’ve gotten on IG and TikTok from random girls wanting to buy this Siedres skirt from me. Sorry not sorry girlies, she’s a keeper.
Personally Invested
Below, a trove of personality pieces I’d gladly welcome to my collection (plus a few I’ve recently acquired).
Proenza Schouler | Yves Striped Knit Fringe Top • The Anteros | Presley shirt • DORSEY | Porter Lab Pear Cut Drop Earrings • Vintage Elsa Peretti Necklace • Ayllon | Casilda Pouch • Dehanhche | Koru belt • RENATA.Q | Oblon Crocheted Seashell Necklace • Collage Created on Zeen
The dreamiest Proenza top. I now regret getting rid of a similar creamy knit fringe top from H&M many years ago.
I’ve been on the hunt for a vintage Elsa Peretti bottle pendant necklace with a turquoise stopper (my birthstone) — at the right price. Marie Claire is saying that perfume pendants are the new conversation starter!
Dorsey sent me these pear beauties, and they’re even more stunning in-person. They feel a bit more special than regular studs, but still wearable for everyday.
This Ayllon leather pouch has been on my wishlist for almost a year now. I was set on ivory, but they just released a stunning deep red and now I’m torn.
I discovered The Anteros last fall and instantly became a fan. They have some fresh colors for spring — I saw this shirt in butter yellow on Shay (she’s even chicer IRL) and it’s now at the top of my wishlist.
SEA | Priscilla Fringed Embroidered Top • MANÀ x CARINA NICKLAS SHELL TASSEL NECKLACE • Juju Vera | Athena Turquoise Collar • Anita Berisha | Calla Lily Earrings• Aureum | No. 2 Belt • Attersee | The Tassel Belt • TALIA PERLA | The Halston Brooch • Collage Created on Zeen
You’ve probably caught on to my fringe and tassel (and turquoise) fixation by now. This top from SEA is high up on the wishlist. I dream about it paired back to vintage Levi’s and my most-worn leather flip-flops from last summer (more sizes here.)
I can’t get this brooch from Talia Perla out of my mind (I’ve mentioned it before, I know…) The possibilities are endless — I want to add a black silk cord and wear it as a necklace.
These Calla Lily earrings from Anita Berisha are next level. Perfect for a summer wedding glam.
BEN-AMUN | Exclusive Tort Cuff • Muna | Coralina Cardigan • Freda Salvador | ELIS MINI CRESCENT BAG • Freda Salvador | SERA FISHERMAN SANDAL • Underwater Weaving |Retro-Travel Tote • Lug Von Siga | Rosalie Top • Monica Vinader x Kate Young |Gemstone Ring • Collage Created on Zeen
The Freda Salvador spring collection has so many gems. This cow haircalf mini bag and crystal-embellished fisherman sandals caught my eye. (We have a code: LWSF10)
I’ve been obsessed with Underwater Weaving since discovering the brand last fall at the The Love List shopping event. I’m loving the idea of a summer basket in a fun color. I’ve decided to officially join their basket weaving club because I want to learn how to make this little cutie. Plus, it’s probably a good idea to learn a new skill with your hands in case
beforethe AI bots take over. This Lug Von Siga top has the same vibe as the top Harper wore at wine tasting in season 2 of The White Lotus. I’d style it the same way with high-waisted jeans and flats. I loved Maria’s post on Harper’s chic Italian holiday style.
Side note: Some of you have asked about my Zeen collages — I’m excited to share that they’re officially live! I’ve been testing their creator studio for a few months now and it’s a game-changer for importing collages and links in one go.
